Detroit Red Wings defenceman Mike Green will undergo surgery on this cervical spine and miss the remainder of the season, the team announced on Thursday.

Green appeared in 65 games this season for the Red Wings and posted eight goals and 25 assists and a minus-14 rating.

He missed seven games in February with the injury and re-aggravated it during a March 21 practice.

The 32-year-old is in his third season with the Red Wings, after spending the first 10 years of his NHL career with the Washington Capitals.

He was selected 29th overall in the first round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Green is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
