Canadian welterweight Rory MacDonald appears poised for a new MMA home as Flocombat.com is reporting that he is heading to Bellator MMA, ending his time with the UFC.

The report also indicates that UFC declined their option to match Bellator’s offer for MacDonald’s services, a clause that exists in fighter contracts.

The 27-year-old became a free agent after his unanimous decision loss to Stephen Thompson at UFC Ottawa in June.  It was the former title challenger’s second consecutive loss after losing to Robbie Lawler in a Fight of the Year winning bout at UFC 189 for the welterweight title.

The Quesnel, BC native suffered a broken nose in both bouts.

MacDonald leaves UFC with a 9-4 record in the promotion and an 18-4 overall MMA record.

There are no reports as to when MacDonald could make his first appearance or contest his first fight for Bellator.
