The Ottawa Senators are slated to meet with defenceman Cody Ceci for his arbitration hearing Wednesday, and it appears the two sides are far apart.

According to The Ottawa Sun, reports indicate that Ceci is asking for a $6 million salary, while the Senators have countered with a $3.35 million offer.

Ceci, 24, made $2.8 million a season on his last contract, a two-year, $5.6 million deal signed in 2016.

He scored five goals and posted 19 points last season while appearing in all 82 games for the first time in his career. Ceci finished second on the Senators (behind only Erik Karlsson) in average ice time last season with 23:20 per game - the 31st highest total in the league.

Ceci has finished with more than 23 minutes of average ice time in each of the past two seasons and tallied a career-high 10 goals and 26 points during the 2015-16 campaign.

He was drafted fifth overall by the Senators in 2012.

The team is scheduled to go through the process again on Friday when forward Mark Stone will meet with the Senators in front of an arbitrator.

The Senators last went through the arbitration process with a player in 2015, when Mike Hoffman was awarded a one-year, $2 million contract. Hoffman’s ask was $3.4 million that summer, while the Senators countered at $1.75 million.
